A Double Hit to Healthcare Practices
September 29, 2025Beyond the Balance Sheet: Leadership Lessons from Unexpected Places
Earlier this year, my family welcomed a black lab puppy named Mo, short for MoJo. If you imagine a lab puppy, she’s got it all – big paws, boundless energy, and a knack for stealing shoes. What I didn’t expect was how many leadership and workplace lessons would come wrapped up in our newest four-legged family member.
At WebsterRogers, our mission is to elevate the success of our clients and the professional growth of our team. As it turns out, Mo has given me a few reminders on how we can all live that mission—whether in the office or out on a walk.
Routine Matters
Mo thrives on routine. Morning walks, mealtimes, naps. It keeps her balanced and happy. When her routine gets disrupted, we all feel it. The same is true in our work. Structure enables us to deliver timely and relevant advice to clients and to consistently show up for one another. And when things inevitably go off course? We reset, get back on track, and keep moving forward.
Celebrate the Small Wins
Training a puppy takes patience. Every “sit,” “stay,” or polite walk deserves a treat, a smile, or an extra belly rub. At work, celebrating milestones, big and small, reinforces the behaviors and teamwork that lead to long-term success. Sometimes the best motivation is simply knowing your effort is noticed.
Never Forget the Fun
For all the structure and discipline, Mo reminds me daily to play. A good game of fetch, a car ride, or even a nap in the sunshine resets her spirit. In our professional lives, joy matters too. Taking time to laugh together, share stories, and find meaning in our work not only strengthens our culture but also sustains the energy we need to serve our clients well.
Bringing Mo into our family has been a joyful (and sometimes chaotic) adventure. She’s proof that growth, discipline, and fun can, and should, go hand in hand. Just as we guide Mo to be her best self, at WebsterRogers, we remain committed to guiding one another and our clients toward success. After all, as our mission reminds us, we’re here to elevate potential—for our people, our clients, and yes, sometimes even our four-legged companions.
