Tariffs Are Rising, and Tax Uncertainty Reigns – But Waiting Isn’t a Strategy
June 13, 2025Beyond the Balance Sheet: The Power of a Pause

As we close the office for the week of July 4th, I want to take a moment to talk about why this pause matters—and why it’s not just a break, but a strategic decision.
Over the past several months, we’ve worked hard. Really hard. The tax busy season nearly pushed many of us to the edge of burnout. And I’ve heard from team members at all levels that you’re feeling stretched thin. You’re not alone.
I’ve been there. In fact, for years, I pushed myself to keep up with the demands of leadership and family life. I was logging long hours, carrying big responsibilities, and convinced that if I just kept going, I could hold it all together. But over time, I realized: you can’t pour from an empty cup. And trying to do so, no matter how committed you are, can compromise your health, your decision-making, and your ability to serve well.
That’s why rest is essential, not optional, for high-performing people and high-performing firms.
When we take time to recharge, we show up stronger. We think more clearly, connect more deeply, and collaborate more effectively. Rest supports not just our well-being, but our ability to live out our mission: elevating the success of our clients and the professional growth of our team through a partnership built on innovative solutions, exceptional service, and unwavering integrity.
Truly Unplug
This week off is for all of us, partners and associates alike. I hope you truly unplug. When the internal emails stop, when the calendar clears, when the pressure lifts, you can find the space to relax, reset, and refocus.
Personally, I’ll be at the lake with my family. No agenda. No packed schedule. Just quiet mornings, books on the porch, and whatever the day brings. It’s in those moments that I feel most grounded, most content, and most ready to return with purpose.
Lesson Learned
I also want to acknowledge something I’ve learned over time: rest doesn’t happen without boundaries. If your plate is full, it’s okay to say so. Set expectations clearly with your team. Communicate your capacity. Say no when needed, and trust others to step in. That’s not weakness, it’s wisdom. It’s how we support each other and create space for sustainable growth.
Looking Ahead
As we look ahead to the second half of the year, we have ambitious goals, some of which extend well into 2026. We’ll be moving fast again soon. But for now, take the time you’ve earned. Give yourself the permission to rest.
Because the best version of you, the one who thinks creatively, leads with clarity, and brings joy to the work, is the one who is rested.
Enjoy the break. You’ve earned it.
